Chapter 14

Sadie

After what seemed like a few days of walking through the halls of the mansion, a formal tour of the entire place was in order. My demon protectors had promised, and I was going to hold them to that promise.

There was a whole underground level that I had yet to see. That level had been vacant ever since the last owners moved out and my protectors took up residents.

The last occupants were the vampire king and queen of Nebulae, but they jumped realms at the first opportunity. They used to sleep in the dungeon levels, and Morpheus had even claimed they left behind a coffin or two. It all seemed so morbid. And I was certainly glad that my demons didn’t sleep in coffins.

But I wasn’t as interested in the underground dungeon as I was in Nebulae as a whole. After looking through the glass at everyone who passed by the mansion, I was curious about this realm. It was risky, but I want to get out and see things.

I felt better now. My strength was back. My powers were growing. My magic was still a bit shaky, but I was working on that.

Soon, my protectors would be strong enough to cloak me entirely. When we ventured out eventually, I wouldn’t have to worry about someone spotting me and taking word back to Finn’s minions, or worse, my demons’ father. They weren’t ready for that yet. Hell, I wasn’t ready for it. I knew it would happen someday, but I could agree with one thing concerning my protectors—we wanted to be ready for it.

At tonight’s meeting, Altair, Morpheus, and Dominik would decide the best way to launch their attack.

All three of my protectors were seated at the head of the table with me directly across from them. They were all so dominant; I often wondered how they shared leadership over so many things without butting heads. Well, since my arrival, I’d only seen Altair and Dominik bicker and physically fight about one thing. It also seemed they had put that behind them. Altair wasn’t in a bad mood and Dominik had apologized.

“So…” Altair started, clasping his hands together. “Let’s start with the most pressing matter…growing Sadie’s powers back to where it was before Finn intervened.”

Dominik sat back in his chair. “He is lucky we don’t have access to earth right now. If that were the case, we wouldn’t even be talking of him. He’d be a dead man. Powers go back to Sadie. Problem solved. But since you took so long to cross over from Nebulae to earth, he nearly succeeded.”

Altair growled. “I teleported as fast as I could, and you know that. That cloaking spell the Cave witches did for us took some time.”

My posture stiffened at the mention of witches. “Wait? Cave witches? There are witches here?”

“Yes, Nebulae has a prominent coven. They live in the mountains. In huts. And in caves. Thus, why we call them cave witches. They’re not as powerful as you thought. It took seven of them to get me cloaked so I could transport from Nebulae to Earth.
